   Proposal Description:
   Abundant studies suggested proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) were associated with higher dementia risk. However, those analyses compared PPI users with non-users, and many studies did not consider histamine-2 receptor antagonists (H2RAs), the other class of acid suppressants. H2RAs were thought to be anti-cholinergic. The proposed analysis aims to investigate whether H2 antagonist and PPI users show differential associations with different cognitive domains across people with AD, MCI, and normal cognition. We hypothesize that H2RAs will be associated with greater cognitive decline, and the association will be larger in the context of MCI and AD.
